Northwest held off an athletic Newman team Thursday evening for an 81-70 victory inside Bearcat Arena.
The 'Cats (9-1) opened up a 14-point first half lead, but the Jets charged back. The Northwest advantage at halftime was only two, and Newman took a five-point lead in the second half.
With 11:30 to play in the game, the Bearcats trailed 54-49. From that point, Northwest outscored Newman 32-16 to win the game with some cushion.
Ryan Hawkins went off for 30 points and five rebounds in the win.
Diego Bernard finished with 18 points.
Trevor Hudgins put up 12 points, seven assists, and two steals.
Northwest is back home Saturday to face Central Oklahoma. Tip off is set for 3:30pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 3pm.
